When it comes to installing an air compressor, the type of piping must be considered. With pressure, heat and water flowing through the system, the reliability and durability of the material you chose for you piping is of paramount importance. A piping we would highly recommend is aluminum alloy. The benefits of aluminum alloy piping are:
- It a lightweight material
- It provides a hassle-free installation
- Aluminum does not corrode over time
- It has a smooth, streamline inner surface
- Even after you have installed your aluminum alloy piping, you are free to still modify your compressed air distribution system
- Aluminum piping offers clean air that is free of particulates
- Easily sourced from hardware and home supply stores
- It is leak-free unlike an alternative material such as black piping
Another material we would recommend to use for the piping of your air compression system is copper. The benefits are:
- Copper does not corrode over time
- An aesthetically pleasing choice of piping
- It has a smooth, streamline inner surface
- Copper piping offer clean air that is free of particulates
- Easily sourced from hardware and home supply stores
- It is leak-free unlike an alternative material such as black piping
While the use of PVC piping is common as it is easily sourced and inexpensive, we would not recommend to use it for you air compression system as:
- As PVC is a plastic, it can get brittle and can crack and break over time
- The presence of air compressor oils in the line, in addition to the heat from the compressed air contributed to the breaking down of PVC
- PVC piping can break under pressure, meaning that the plastic will shatter and can be extremely harmful, and even fatal
